Work has begun on construction of two extraction wells at the Hovgårdens waste management facility, outside Uppsala, Sweden. These two wells will be used to extract PFAS contaminated groundwater which contain up to 3 000 ng/l PFAS. After extraction the contaminated water will be treated using surface active foam fractionation (SAFF) followed by electrochemical oxidation for PFAS and polishing with phytoremediation. The wells are 10 meters deep and will be able to extract up to 3 m3/h of contaminated water for treatment.
